Jewelry is a lovely gift and an easy one to get slightly wrong. A few questions make the choice much easier than browsing until something looks nice.
Start with what they already wear
Look at the pieces the person reaches for every day. Silver or gold tones? Small studs or statement earrings? Someone who wears the same delicate chain daily rarely wants a bold pendant, and the other way round. What someone already owns predicts what they will wear far better than what you like yourself.
Earrings, necklace or bracelet?
- Earrings are the safest gift: no size to get right, and a light pair suits nearly everyone. If the person has had trouble with earrings before, our article on sensitive ears covers what to look for.
- Necklaces need a length decision. 45 cm is the safe default when you cannot measure.
- Bracelets are the hardest to size — choose an adjustable design.
When you are unsure
Pick something small and well made over something large and impressive. Calm colours and simple shapes get worn; very specific pieces sit in a drawer. And a note saying the piece can be exchanged takes the pressure off both of you.
Do not leave it to the last day
Handmade pieces are made in small batches and are not always in stock in every variant, so order early enough that the parcel is not still travelling on the day of the occasion. If it really is last minute, a piece that is in stock and ships immediately beats the perfect piece that arrives late.
